Are public tours of BBC Broadcasting House still running?

No. General public tours were permanently discontinued in 2016.

Between 2019 and 2024, the building faced 119 protests. These security concerns led to the permanent closure of all public indoor areas. Even the interior Media Cafe is completely closed to unvetted visitors. You cannot enter the lobby just to look around.

How do I get BBC Radio Theatre tickets?

You must apply for free studio audience tickets online through the BBC.

The BBC Radio Theatre hosts live recordings for radio comedy shows and music concerts. You must book these e-tickets well in advance. Check the BBC studio audience schedules online to see what is recording during your visit.

What are the rules for going inside?

You need a pre-booked ticket, photo ID, and you must pass an airport-style security check.

Security is strict. You must present a valid photo ID, such as a passport or driver's license. Bags and rucksacks are searched, so bring minimal bags to speed up entry. Photography inside the building is strictly prohibited.

What should I bring to a studio recording?

Bring your e-ticket, photo ID, and a light sweater.

Television and radio studios are kept heavily air-conditioned, so a light sweater is useful. You also need your printed or digital e-tickets. Leave large bags at your hotel to make the security process faster.

How long does a BBC Radio Theatre show take?

Expect to spend 2 to 3 hours at the venue for a live recording.

The BBC Radio Theatre retains many of its original 1930s architectural elements. It is an authentic working studio. You will spend time waiting to enter, going through security, and sitting for the full live recording.

What can I see from the outside for free?

You can view the 1932 Art Deco exterior and glimpse the live newsroom.

If you do not have tickets, you can still see the front facade on Portland Place. Walk to the modern glass extension to look through the street-level windows. This gives you a view into Europe's largest live newsroom.
